Research Data Management

for employees and cooperation partners of Montanuniversität Leoben

Services for scientists at Montanuniversität Leoben

We support researchers at Montanuniversität throughout the entire data lifecycle—from planning to reuse. We offer flexible, on-demand advice without fixed office hours, on-site, by email, or online.

Why research data management (RDM) matters more than ever:

•	Good research practice: RDM anchored in guidelines (e.g., ÖAWI guidelines from 2026). •	Reuse: Internal and open reuse of data (e.g., for AI applications, follow-up studies, reduced experimental effort). •	Referencing and reproducibility: Transparent results through robust data and metadata practices. •	Open Science requirements: Mandates from funders and public bodies. •	Collaboration and research networks: Shared standards for joint workflows.

Data Management Plans Data Management Plans (DMPs) DMPs are the backbone of solid RDM. Many funders (EU Framework Programmes, ERC, FWF, FFG) require project-specific DMPs. •	Support for drafting: structured, funder-compliant, and practical. •	DMP review: feedback on existing plans with actionable recommendations.

Repository and Long-term Preservation

Montanuniversität will launch its trustworthy research data repository by the end of 2026.

  • FIS as central hub: advice on preparing research datasets with respect to metadata and research data documentation
  • Curating of the research data for the entry into the repository

The FAIR principles are the gold standard for research data management: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable. •	Today, FAIR applies across the full lifecycle—from data collection and processing to publication and long-term preservation. •	Our support: standards and vocabularies, metadata profiles, licensing, DOIs •	Consultation how to make data discoverable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable—within and beyond the university.
